To stain with DNA InstaStain™ (Ethidium Bromide) sheets

Note: Ethidium bromide is a CARCINOGEN wear latex gloves at all times.
Do not touch anything with the gloves that you use to handle the gel or staining papers.

  1. Place the gel on a piece of plastic wrap on a flat surface.

  2. Moisten the gel with a few drops of electrophoresis buffer.

  3. Place a sheet of DNA InstaStain™ (unprinted side down) on the gel.

  4. Firmly run your fingers over the entire surface of the DNA InstaStain™ several times.

  5. Place your gel casting tray on top of the gel and weight it down with a small empty beaker (This insures that the DNA InstaStain™ maintains good contact with the gel).

  6. Allow the DNA InstaStain™ sheet to sit on the gel for 2-5 minutes.

  7. Remove the DNA InstaStain™ sheet. Transfer the gel to a short wave UV illuminator.

    Note: Short wave illumination can cause eye damage.
    Close the protective shield on the illuminator and wear goggles before turning on the illuminator.

  8. Observe and sketch or photograph the gel.
